Life After SUNY Purchase
Life After SUNY Purchase: Alumni Works
The 1980s were a very unique time for art students at SUNY Purchase. Although they were actively encouraged to embrace the school motto, “think wide open”, the austere, “riot proof” campus tended to undermine the message. The solid brick mall above ground and the plexus of underground hallways below were designed more for tactical police actions than social commerce and creativity, and many found the environment lonely and alienating. The art work from this period bears this out, often evincing strong themes of isolation and fragmentation.
Alumni Artists on display include Jim Granger, Mark DeLura, Joshua Rosenblatt, Christine Schiavo, Steve Rosenzweig, Laura Von Rosk, Cindy Workman, and Dion Yannatos.
Curator Lisa Padovani ’85, is a graduate of the Purchase Film program. She is currently a Costume Designer for film and television.
Opens AUGUST 6, Reception for artists from 6-9pm
