Mark Hogancamp at OAF
A selection of classic and new photographs by acclaimed photographer Mark Hogancamp will be presented by One Mile Gallery at the 2019 edition of the Outsider Art Fair.
Mark Hogancamp is known for his vivid war scenes, fantasy scenarios, and colorful character portraits from the fictional world of Marwencol, composed of elaborate panoramas, ten-inch dolls, and the otherworldly richness of imagination in Hogancamp’s work.
Marwencol was originally created by the artist as a therapeutic tool for dealing with trauma, after a violent assault outside a bar in Upstate New York in 2000 left him with brain damage and, consequently, significant memory loss. The exhibition will feature some of the artist’s most well-known images from the early 2000s to present. Mark’s story and work have been celebrated in Esopus magazine, This American Life, and the critically acclaimed 2010 documentary Marwencol. On December 21, 2018, filmmaker Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Cast Away) will release a feature film based on Hogancamp’s life called Welcome to Marwen, starring Steve Carell as Mark, from a script written by Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands).
Mark Hogancamp’s works will be on display at booth 38 at Outsider Art Fair, Metropolitan Pavillion 125 W 18th St, New York, NY 10011
