Neal Hollinger The Illusion Keep
Reception for artist May 3, 2014, 6-8pm at One Mile Gallery, 475 Abeel Street, Kingston NY. Exhibit EXTENDED THROUGH MAY 17!
Neal Hollinger’s works rarely seem as if they’ve been hung on the wall. Rather, they appear to have bubbled and oozed out of some Technicolor netherworld just on the other side. It’s a place of pebbly mountains and phantasmic creatures, of secret stills and ancient relics. One Mile’s presentation of “The Illusion Keep” delivers, for the first time, a larger, frothier window onto this mysterious universe. The installation will occupy the entire gallery space, and feature a variety of independent works protruding from, buried into, or otherwise fighting to get out of the larger landscape. Even the furniture will be given the Hollinger treatment.
The idea of a “keep” or refuge informs the overall spirit of the show and is intended, in the artist’s words, to suggest “a stronghold against reality”.
Neal Hollinger is a Rosendale-based artist. His work was recently included in a group exhibition at KMOCA. He will be showing in the SELECT ART FAIR in New York this May. Neal Hollinger is represented by One Mile Gallery and this marks his first solo show at the gallery.
