Paul W. Evans: Residual Tilt
One Mile Gallery is pleased to present new work by California artist (and New York native) Paul W. Evans. The paintings in Residual Tilt meditate on the colors and forms of a late-day world, crepuscular landscapes in which the boundaries between energy and matter, past and present, surface and depth, manufactured and natural, original and simulacrum, human and non-human both clarify and collapse. As afternoon leads into evening, as shadows lengthen and the sun’s light softens and diversifies in hue, forms flatten into two dimensions and outlines intensify, even as forms and substances blur. As the evening star shines and the owl takes flight, we are invited to reflect on a game whose play is over before the new game begins.
Paul W. Evans was born in Queens, New York and earned his BFA at the School of Visual Arts (New York, NY). Recent exhibitions include the Frances Fullerton Museum of Art, California State University, San Bernardino, Weekend Space, Fifth Floor Gallery, the Institute of Cultural Inquiry and the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock. He has shown extensively in the US and abroad and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. For more info: www.pweny.com
