Demiurge

Demiurge. A solo show by Gabe Benzur opens June 14th. In gnostic belief, the demiurge is a divine being, but not necessarily a god, who is responsible for fashioning and constructing the universe. This collection of landscapes focuses on liminal spaces where our world intersects with the supernatural realm—geological formations such as sinkholes, craters, springs, and caverns become thresholds that separate our natural world from a hidden, supernatural world inhabited by otherworldly beings. These landscapes invite the viewer to traverse the boundary between worlds, empowering them to witness hidden knowledge and explore the unknown. Through the act of viewing, these places become solely the viewer’s, who in turn assumes the role of their creator. @gbenzur paintings. Each one more demented than the other.
