Golden Years
In the late 70s and early 80s, Ed Rosenbaum was a teenage music fan who saw some of rock’s greatest luminaries as they passed through New York City: Lou Reed, David Bowie, The Jam, Thin Lizzy, and Bruce Springsteen to name a few. To commemorate each show, he snapped a few photos with a manual Pentax camera, but thought little of it at the time. “It was a way to remember the shows you went to,” he recalls.
Unseen for years, the re-discovery of Rosenbaum’s photos is a significant event in the world of rock-n-roll photography. Not only did he capture many great artists at their peak, but also with a sense of dynamic composition that’s rare for an amateur. The fact that Rosenbaum took all of these stunning photos from the floor—in many cases, from seats far away from the stage—is even more astonishing.
The Golden Years exhibit originally opened at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn in 2016 curated by ESOPUS Founder Tod Lippy. These works at One Mile Gallery come from this exhibition. ESOPUS Foundation discovered Ed’s work and published a compendium book in 2016 that will also be available at the opening.
Opens July 1, 2017. Reception for the artist from 6-9pm.
Show on display through July 29.
